October 2018 Newsletter

It’s been a busy year and it just gets busier. The BAY Foodbank continues to pass parcel milestones and has peaked at 38 parcels going out in a single day! With Christmas not too far off in the calendar, we’re looking for extra volunteers for what will be a busy period. We also have our AGM coming up later this month!

You are warmly invited to our Annual General Meeting, to be held at:
The Bay Foodbank
The Barn
Meadow Well Way
Waterville Road
North shields

23rd October 2018 @ 6.00pm

December is on the horizon
With December coming up fast, we’d like to give you a heads up about our selection boxes and ‘reverse’ advent calendar appeal. ‘Reverse’ Advent calendars consist of adding one item each day and then dropping off all of it at the Foodbank. For selection boxes and normal advent calendars, we’re inviting those and more Christmas goodies from now, with a view to distribute them for 1st December. As for reverse advent calendars, we’re also inviting them now, but if you decide to put any short life items in then we would be much obliged if they could be brought in as soon as possible before Christmas.

Sainsburys
The weekend of Friday 30th November, Saturday 1st December, Sunday 2nd December is when we’re looking to do our big in-person collections at Sainsburys in Monkseaton. So please come along if you can and pop something in our boxes!

Bus trip fundraiser
We have places left for our BAY Foodbank Fundraising Event on Sunday 21st October at 3pm. The Tyne Idol Tours vintage bus will pick us up from the Gibraltar Rock, then take us on a mystery tour of iconic sites where we can celebrate the music, film and TV made in our wonderful region. We’ll hear the stories, the connections, the coincidences and the gossip, in a three-hour trip on the classic double-decker bus with two refreshment stops at iconic locations, and all linked together with musical gems and a running commentary from Mr Ray Laidlaw of Lindisfarne fame. Passengers are encouraged to bring along their favourite nibbles and drinks (plastic glasses only please) to add to the fun atmosphere! The bus will then return us to the Gibraltar Rock at the end of the tour.

The tickets are priced at £20 each on a first-come first-served basis, and you can choose whether to be upstairs or downstairs

Please book & purchase tickets from the Bay Foodbank, The Barn, off Waterville Road, Meadowell, North Shields, NE29 6BA.
Please note that there is no wheelchair access due to the age of the bus, apologies.

Newcastle Airport
We recently began a partnership with Newcastle Airport to collect liquids and toiletries that are confiscated during security checks. We have also received 50 buggies which we dispersed to the local community! The water bottles have gone to the homeless in Newcastle and suntan lotion has been sent to schools during this summer. An enormous thanks to Newcastle Airport and Christian Wienkamp, the Airport chaplain, for his help in arranging this!

Harvest Festival 2018
Last but certainly not least – donations have been coming in thick and fast, it’s heartwarming to find every year that there are dozens of churches and schools that send in donations. It’s always a welcome influx. Thank you to all who have poured in their efforts! For more information about who has donated, and personal thank you shout outs to them all please seeour facebook updates! (There’s too many of you to mention otherwise!)
